The Story Behind Coral Eye

Four young marine biologists decided to pursue their dreams and passions and set up a marine outpost right in the heart of the Coral Triangle. When the project came to life in 2009, the original idea was to create a co-working outpost where universities and students could exchange ideas and develop their projects on tropical marine environments. 

In 2013, following the construction of the diving center and lots of hard work, Coral Eye opened its doors to tourism as an alternative to mix science with passion and love for the sea. Through the new concept we were able to finance environmental projects, offer scholarships to students and better support local communities.

In 2022, Coral Eye joined forces with Siladen Resort & Spa to form a new partnership and elevate the resort to a new level of comfort for guests. Today, Coral Eye offers 15 villas along with a new Beach Pavilion that features a restaurant, lounge bar, and pool. While these additions bring comfort and style, the spirit of the Marine Outpost remains at the heart of Coral Eye, keeping alive the community spirit and unique identity that has distinguished it since its founding.

A VISION IN DESIGN

Architecture

Designed by Studio ARC.S Milano, the central structure was crafted to integrate with the surrounding environment.

The project has evolved slowly and naturally during two years of building, maintaining a constructive and human exchange between knowledge and techniques belonging to two different worlds whilst mutually learning from each other.

Together with a team of local artisans and local workers through a wise use of local materials and techniques we created a modern and avant-garde structure that offers guests the comfort they need without negatively affecting the surrounding environment. A respectful distance from the shore and the use of natural materials for the insulation of the roof make the structure almost invisible from the sea, minimizing its impact on the surrounding landscape.

Particular attention during the design phase was made to the use of air circulation to refresh the rooms. The conical roof covered with leaves, the separation of the cubes and the double cavities of the walls create a continuous circulation of fresh air.

HANDCRAFTED FOR THE SEA

Shipyards

Building boats is our passion, a tradition deeply rooted in our love for the sea. From the very beginning of Coral Eye, our skilled local carpenters have played an essential role in shaping not just our resort but also our custom-built diving boats. Each vessel is handcrafted in our own shipyard, blending traditional craftsmanship with modern design to ensure that every detail reflects both practicality and aesthetic beauty. Designed specifically for divers, our boats feature an easy back-roll entry for seamless access to the water.

Sustainability

Since our opening, we have been deeply committed to environmental stewardship. We prioritize sustainable practices that reduce the impact of our daily operations, from responsible waste management to rainwater collection and promoting responsible diving to protect marine life. Beyond conservation, we actively support local communities by sourcing materials and products locally and creating meaningful employment opportunities.
