WHERE NATURE AND TRADITION MEET

BANGKA ISLAND

The Bangka archipelago, situated between the Celebes Sea and the Molucca Sea, includes several islands such as Gangga and Talisei. Bangka itself is a small volcanic island rich in natural diversity: forests, mangroves, gentle hills, coconut plantation, white sandy beaches and rugged coastlines all coexist in a compact area. It also has interesting terrestrial and coastal wildlife like the Sulawesi marsupial bear “cuscus”, snakes, monitor lizards and birds such as the collared kingfisher and Egrets and herons near mangroves.

With an area of 4,700 ha, Bangka hosts about 2,000 people distributed in the three main villages. The local economy is mainly based on fishing, agriculture and in recent years also on tourism.
With no roads, no traffic, and no rush, the island maintains a quiet, rural rhythm.

Walking through Bangka is a chance to explore a side of the island most visitors never see, a place where nature and tradition still live side by side.

Bangka Hiking Tour

The hike starts from Coral Eye and follows a forest path inland.

You’ll walk through lush vegetation and small cultivated areas, and after about 30–45 minutes, reach Lihunu village from the southern side, crossing a small bridge that opens onto village life. You’ll find colorful homes, children eager to greet visitors, and the warm smiles of local farmers and families.

For those who want to continue, there’s an optional short but steep uphill trail leading to a panoramic viewpoint above the bay.

The full round trip covers about 4 kilometers and takes approximately 3 hours.
It’s suitable for anyone comfortable with light to moderate hiking.
